Disney Launches ''High School Musical'' Products at Limited Too Stores Nationwide; New Line Features Apparel and Other Merchandise Inspired by Disney Channel's Original Movie Smash-Hit

Disney Consumer Products (NYSE:DIS) will launch a new line of tween merchandise inspired by the smash-hit "High School Musical," a Disney Channel Original Movie that made history across multiple media platforms. The line will launch this month exclusively at over 500 Limited Too stores nationwide and at 100 of the retailer's Justice Stores. "High School Musical" merchandise will combine the fun and spirited themes of the movie with catchy phrases from the original soundtrack and the likenesses of the movie's cast. Both stores will carry a selection of unique tee shirts and other merchandise that will enhance customer connection with this movie phenomenon.

"The response to 'High School Musical' from teens and tweens has been phenomenal and has created great demand for a merchandise program that will allow them to bring the movie into their own environment," said Lisa Avent, vice president of TV Licensing for Disney Consumer Products. "Limited Too will help us reach this key demographic with a line that will extend the movie's inherent messages of optimism, self-expression, and creativity."

Limited Too will support the new line with in-store signage, window displays and a gift with purchase promotion that will include an autographed poster signed by the "High School Musical" cast. Limited Too and Justice will also carry the Encore Edition of "High School Musical" on Disney DVD, from Walt Disney Home Entertainment, with two versions of the movie (original and the Sing-Along version) and never-before-seen bonus material, as well as the second music CD, a "High School Musical Special Edition" soundtrack from Walt Disney Records and the "High School Musical Junior Novel" from Disney Press - each scheduled to arrive in stores on May 23rd.

"The 'High School Musical' CD has been a phenomenal success at Limited Too and Justice. We hope to bring that same excitement to our stores as we debut the movie's merchandising line," said Chuck Strottman, marketing director for Too, Inc. "We think the 'High School Musical' merchandise along with the DVD release and new music CD will be on our tween customers' 'have-to-have' list this summer."

Future plans for "High School Musical" merchandise include an expansion into a full line of apparel, accessories, home decor and stationery. The majority of the products will be ready just in time for the back-to-school season and will continue to grow through spring 2007. Additional opportunities are being explored to expand the product line into other retail channels.

The success of "High School Musical" continues as the movie will begin premiering around the world in June on Disney Channel Australia, followed by Disney Channel France; Disney Channel Spain; Disney Channel United Kingdom; Disney Channel Japan; and Disney Channel India, among others. Additionally in May, Disney Studios will release key song mastertones and mobile phone ringtones in North America.

The Next United Nations Secretary-General: Time for a Woman
1945-2006: 3 Europeans, 2 Africans, 1 Latin American, 1 Asian, 0 Women

In the sixty years since the United Nations was founded, no woman has ever been elected to serve as Secretary-General, despite the fact that there are many qualified candidates. Women are underrepresented in the ranks of the organization, as well as at the top. As of 30 June 2005, women occupied only 37.1% of professional and higher positions and only 16.2% of the Under-Secretaries General were women. Women’s unequal access to positions of decision-making power around the world hinders progress toward all the United Nations’ goals, including equality, development and peace.

The election of a new United Nations Secretary-General will take place in 2006, when the term of current Secretary-General Kofi Annan comes to an end. Tradition has it that the post of Secretary-General should rotate so that each geographical region gets its “turn.” Women have never had a “turn,” and there are many qualified women from all regions of the world who could serve as Secretary-General. The list presented here is just a small sampling of women who are serving or have served in positions that have given them relevant experience for the job of Secretary-General. There are many more women who are equally qualified. Equality Now names these individuals only to illustrate the considerable pool of talented women who could serve. They have not been contacted regarding the mention of their names, nor have they indicated whether or not they wish to be considered for the post.

The Security Council is responsible for recommending a candidate for Secretary-General to the General Assembly. The Security Council is composed of five permanent members (China, France, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, and the United States) and ten rotating members (who in 2006 will be Argentina, Congo, Denmark, Ghana, Greece, Japan, Peru, Qatar, Slovakia and Tanzania). To be nominated by the Security Council, a candidate must secure at least nine votes and avoid the veto of any permanent member. It is generally understood that no national of the five permanent Security Council members should serve as Secretary-General.

The Platform for Action adopted in 1995 in Beijing at the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women called for the development of “mechanisms to nominate women candidates for appointment to senior posts in the United Nations” and set the target of “overall gender equality, particularly at the Professional level and above, by the year 2000.” Yet ten years after the Beijing conference and five years after the target date, the United Nations is nowhere near the established goal, and there is no indication that a woman has ever been considered for the top post. No mechanism for such consideration has been developed. Every year the General Assembly adopts a resolution on the “Improvement of the Status of Women in the Secretariat,” lamenting the lack of progress that has been made and calling for the achievement of gender balance in the staffing of the Secretariat. The upcoming election of a new UN Secretary-General is an opportunity to implement the commitment made in Beijing in a meaningful way.

(a) i absolutely love this song. and fiona apple. and the beatles.

(b) i wish i knew how to just sit down at the computer and pour out pages and pages of story. i've tried so many times, but i always end up staring at the screen three hours later with nothing in front of me but a meticulously edited paragraph... it's so frustrating. because one of my oldest life goals is to publish a novel. i went through this phase about five years ago when i was terrified by the possibility that no one will remember me after i die... i've matured so much since then that the thought of not being remembered by future generations doesn't bother me as long as i make some small but meaningful impact on the world while i'm alive. but still, i can't even explain what that would mean to me to see something i wrote in print, on the pages of a real book that people i don't even know pick up off a shelf and glance at, maybe even read. i can't even imagine! and i've tried so many times too. even my quarter creative writing project for mr. phillips in eighth grade was a grand total of 16 pages and i worked on it for what... two months? maybe i just need to put more effort into letting go of my critical side. i have so many half-pages of unwritten stories on the downstairs computer that it wouldn't even be that hard to choose my favorite and just go with whatever comes into my head.

(c) how do you decide where you want to go to college? i'm starting to feel like i shouldn't have checked that little box on the psat that says you'll allow the college board to distribute your address. i feel like harry potter in the beginning of the sorcerer's stone... only i'm being bombarded with "PICK ME PICK ME I'M THE BEST COLLEGE IN [region] AND ANYONE WHO'S ANYONE WANTS TO COME HERE!" and not "dear ms. o'shea, we are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted to hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizadry." wow. i wish. but seriously, how do people have any idea whatsoever where they want to go? some of the people i know have already picked schools! i don't even know what i want to be! how do you choose?

haha i'm such a confused little adolescent soul :)

i'm glad. this weekend has actually been really nice in a c'est-la-vie way... ohhhhh raspberries my dog is scratching on the door with a fluffless hedgehog toy between her teeth. one momennnttt.

anyways. on friday i came home and slept on the couch for a good solid four hours, which was pure bliss, then ate dinner and watched a walk to remember on tv with mom until like two. AND ONLY CRIED A LITTLE, AT THE PART WHERE HE HUGS HIS DAD AFTER HE PAYS FOR AT-HOME CARE! just a little trickle of tears too. but i guess that's not surprising, since i only during movies when i'm sitting next to other people who are crying (except for cool runnings... millie do you remember when yule realizes that he can't live in buckingham palace?!?!?! that one set me off every time).

saturday was extremely weird but good. i went to piper & siblings' first birthday party at winslow park AHHHHH it was soooo cuuuuute! she got to see both her parents and her aunt and about seven of her brothers and sisters and they romped in the mudflats and dunked their heads in puddles and raced through the brush together. aww.
then dad and patrick and i went to patricio's basketball game, where i was almost killed by a hundred little boys doing lay-ups that (more often than not) went pelting into the people sitting on the bleachers. that was a good time.
finally i walked up to the high school around 12:15 and got lunch at foodstop, figuring i had time to buy lunch before the southwesterns bus came which was supposed to be at 12:30. but then i ran into laura and all the techies taking their lunch break from set construction in the cafeteria, so i sat with them for a couple minutes and was informed that the bus was not coming until one. after which laura and i went into the lobby and waited for HALF AN HOUR and still there was not one other person on the swim team in sight. this making us extremely angry and confused, we went into the pool where andrew bowden and david wells were lifeguarding. they told us that the bus had left at least half an hour ago. so we banged our fists into the walls for a while and then laura said she was going to get back to tech. :) so i started walking home because the middle school where patrick had been playing was now deserted. when i got home (with the help of a ride from my neighbors) i had to explain to my parents why i wasn't on my way to westbrook, but we agreed that it was fine that i'd missed the bus because i wasn't even swimming anyways, just going to cheer. THIRTY SECONDS LATER SAM WOOD CALLED ME FROM HER CELL PHONE IN WESTBROOK, AND ASKED ME WHERE I WAS BECAUSE I WAS SWIMMING AND MEET STARTED IN HALF AN HOUR. nice. the bus had left while i was eating lunch twenty feet away.
ok this is getting very long-winded BUT the summary is that i got there on time and was able to swim my little 50 free in the 200 free relay and succeeded in not looking like a complete idiot although i had not swum for two days. our relay team even got t-shirts for placing second in our heat! and overall greely placed fourth out of nine which was also very very good. dad and i bonded over kfc meals on the way home, and when i got back i watched a walk to remember with mom again because she loved it so much that she rented it. :-D

andddd yesterdayyyy was awesome too! i got to spend time with the b-flies at the mall, ate soba and a maki roll at sarku, found out what a lip-pumper is, and learned that plums are the main ingredient of seduction. :) so much fun.
after that was japanese, which never fails to be hilarious and extremely divertido. after that i went to a superbowl party at my brother's best friend's house, which was pretty fun despite me being the only person out of forty participants that was older than ten and younger than 35. unfortunately i only saw about three commercials, a very unattractive 62 year-old man decided it would be a good idea to wear a bellyshirt to his half-time performance, and the seahawks lost. but i got to watch grey's anatomy from start to finish which was amazinggggggg although it was REALLY intense and i don't know if i can wait until the next episode. i'll do my best.

random fact of the day:
half-people, half-seals are called selkies. this i learned from watching the secret of roan inish this morning. a very interesting movie where everyone had really strong irish accents and the parents were ridiculously inattentive to their children, i.e. accidentally letting their infants float out to sea in their cradles and allowing kids to play on deserted islands by themselves. it was a good movie though, really. :)

hellooooooooo.

i'm really tired, but in a good way... this week was extremely long and felt hard for some reason even though i didn't really have any work. well, except for double meh notes.
i can't believe we just had our last home meet of the season and some of my favorite seniors will be leaving soon... so depressing. but it was a good meet (girls won 53-49). and i swam the 100 back for the first time! and didn't smash into the laneline after my start! YES!!!! :)

also. i'm glad we're finally reading some shakespeare in english, for crying out loud. but even though macbeth is good i still miss romeo and juliet because acting it out in english last year was just amazing. and mrs. pinkham forced me to be juliet for about 50 pages soooooo in a good and bad way it was probably the highlight of my acting career. except for wa tan ye. :-D

which reminds me, i can't believe tomorrow is a tech saturday!!!!!! i'll probably be cleaning out the nasty old basement in the dungeons of the renovated part of the junior high for six hours BUT i'm still excited. and i think i might be going to the mariner's church dance thing too! that would awesome although i don't really know what it is because i didn't exactly read the poster marika and i put up. ha.

i'm also ecstatic that meghan and i masterfully executed our lab this morning. it was brilliant. we had to fold a strip of magnesium, make a little cage out of a copper wire, make a barometer with aqeous hydrochloric acid, and then observe the redox reaction with the magnesium WHICH WAS SO PRETTY. first the acid sort of swirled up the tube but it was clear so it looked like shiny curls of water, then the oxygen started bubbling up and these hundreds of cute little bubbles danced up the tube like a lava lamp. it was a good time. AND WE DIDN'T MAKE FOOLS OUT OF OURSELVES IN FRONT OF DAN AND NATHAN AND BEN! OR FORGET ANY INGREDIENTS (phenolphthalein)!!! OR PUT ANYTHING BACKWARDS (ringstand)!!!!!

wow i'm sort of drifting off on the keyboard if you can't tell i'm tired already. (hint: i just described a lab as being really fun and cool and pretty.)

adieu, mis tomodachi ♥

HAHAH OH MY GOSH THAT WAS HORRIBLE. ahhhhhhh oh wow. i'm sorry, i'm really not in that bad a mood or going to hurl myself off a cliff anytime soon or anything, but i can't help it. that's the way i've been feeling for a couple of weeks now because i know that my workload isn't impossible by any means, and people all around my are excelling under the pressure... so obviously i must either be doing something wrong or just not be "up to snuff" NO MATTER HOW MUCH I LOATHE THAT EXPRESSION. does anyone know what i mean? although i appreciate it, please don't trouble yourself with any esteem-boosting comments either because i really am fine. just stressed. school tends to do that to me sometimes. :) it's just extremely hard for me to come to the realization that some of my peers are able to succeed at pretty much everything they do, while there's the possibility that i have a few specialized areas in which i'm strong. soooo confuuusinggggg andddd annoyingggggggg anddd stupidddd. whatever, maybe i'm just crazy. either way this entry can most definitely be classified as "rant which no one should pay attention to because i'm tired, stressed, and otherwise out of my mind." :-D

Ground Rules: The first player of this "game" starts with the topic "5 Guilty Pleasures" and people who get tagged need to write an LJ entry about their 5 Guilty Pleasures as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose the next 5 people to be tagged and list their names.

1. suteki na otoko no ko. a given, obviously.

2. using my powers of literary creativity for evil. if you know what i'm talking about then good, because you're the only people who are supposed to. :)

3. certain televised and/or live entertainment including but not limited to: disney on ice, project runway, phantom of the opera, dr. phil, etc.

4. chocolate in any shape, style, or form.

5. discreetly admiring the (UPPER!!!) bodies of a couple of guys on the swim team. I'M SORRY! i can't help it!!!!

ohhhhh wow. if you've never seen me do chores (which you probably haven't because it's a rare spectacle), then let me give you some key highlights of the past twenty minutes to describe how i go about cleaning the fishtank.

1) i spaced out so much as i was vacuuming the gravel with my plastic tube sucking thing that i didn't notice at first when the suction stopped. but no water was coming out the other end so then i figured something must be stuck in the tubing, so i looked and saw a very fat brownish leaf stuck inside. which i soon realized was A FISH. so i flipped out and yelled at my mom who was sleeping on the couch and she helped me get him out and he swam off and was fine. really.
2) i hadn't cleaned the tank for such a long time that it was dirtier than the dentist's office tank in finding nemo after they disable the automated filter. and i got extremely bored as i was scrubbing, so i started tracing hearts in the nasty green algae that was covering the walls.
3) when i change the water i have to carry the big bucket from the tank into the kitchen, where i make sure the temperature is right and do the chemical treatment and other annoying stuff. so i was (grudgingly) lugging this sloshing, heavy bucket from tank to sink roughly eight times. and, once again very bored, i proceeded to belt out the song that the girl from the end of the jungle book sings while she walks down from the village to get water from the pool in the jungle that mogli falls into.

I CAN NOT BELIEVE I JUST GOT HOME FROM PRACTICE AND I HAVE A MEET IN LIKE TWO HOURS!!!!! AND THEN DOUBLE PRACTICES TOMORROW?! BAHHHH!!!!!

oh well. vacation is a wonderful thing, even if i have been a lazy blob. i basically didn't put down twilight once since i got home from school on thursday and it was as awesome as the first time, i think. it was just really strange to be reading it in actual print and i noticed a lot of the editing changes too (breya's uncle sent her the manuscript/firstish draft thing two years ago (?) and she let me read it and it was just a stack of computer paper bound with those little metal clasps which was really cool because it was like a real manuscript). sooooo it was just as amazing as the first time except for luckily i haven't spent the last couple days spinning around in the supermarket wondering where edward is.... although i still wish he was real and that i was bella swan. (WE'rE ACTuaLLy rEAllY siMiLAr!!! it's so strange! she's clumsy, hurts people when she plays sports, reads the same books as me, is generally quiet, has brown hair, has the same reaction to blood as i do, and reminds me of myself when she's narrating! yes, i am definitely a good match for edward cullen.) but i'm ecstatic because there are at least two more books coming out! so it's a series! YAY! if you haven't read it then insist that you do so now, no matter what you think the book is like, because i guarantee that you are completely wrong.

christmas was very very very good too. it's probably my favorite holiday but thanksgiving is up there too... and new year's is just plain fun. but ANYWAYS it was a good day despite the fact that patrick and kerry woke me up at 4:30 and we opened presents before six. jhfakjhgkla. and i got a cell phone! awoohoo! i already put all of these weird stickers all over it and i'm really proud of myself. christmas dinner was amazingggg and we all watched little women (love love love) followed by the brothers grimm WHOEVER'S RIDICULOUS IDEA THAT WAS. (dad.) it was pretty much one of the dumbest movies i have ever seen. but i guess if you put heath ledger and/or matt damon in a movie then people (like me) are going to watch it. darrrnnnn youuuu hollywooooood.

so anyways,

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW DANES ARYA BREYA LOOK! THIS IS THE STORY I STARTED IN EIGHTH GRADE ABOUT THE FOUR OF US BEING MAGICAL SIRENS WHO COULD CHANGE OUR OUTFITS THROUGH MINDPOWER AND LIVED ON THAT FLOATING PRISON OFF THE COAST OF PORTLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "LAS CUATRO REINAS DE LA ISLA" ("THE FOUR QUEENS OF THE ISLAND")!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I blew an elegant raspberry to get the hair out of my face; the early morning wind always whipped it around a lot. Oh well – something I just had to deal with as one of Las Cuatro Reinas de la Isla. That was what I liked to call our group of modern day Sirens, living quite happily in our floating prison on the waters of Casco Bay. Standing on my favorite rock I could just see a palish sun peeking over the horizon in the east. Pretty, eh/no?
“Meeves, it looks like you’re walking on water!” shouted Arya from on top of the prison. She sat on the edge of the stone hexagon in a lush bed of moss.
The tip of my rock stopped an inch or two below the surface. “Oh yeah, mad skillz yo,” I replied over my shoulder. “Is anybody else up yet?”
“Grandma Danes.”
“Naturally. Getting breakfast?”
“Uh-huh.” She rested her chin on her knees. An embellished yawn from within the prison told me Breya was up.
“Mornay-in!” she squealed, poking her head out of the nearest window.
“Hah Suzay Lue!” Arya screeched in her high-pitched mocking voice.
“You guys have to come swimming with me. The water’s not that cold.”
“Uhh, no-uh,” answered Breya.
“That’s okay, Marlaynah.”
“Okie doke.” As I tried to imagine the perfect suit to wear into the water, I heard the steady, rumbling beat of blades, then Arya’s quick shout.
“Aahh! Crap! Helicopter!”
Sure enough, a white police chopper was approaching from above.
“What do we do?!” yelled Breya.
“Quick, girls: how about 'Cowboy'?!”
“That’ll get ‘em,” grinned Breya.
I shifted on my perch, and held up my hands like a conductor, then hummed a pitch note for them.
“Wait for me!” came a call from the hexagon. Dana clambered out of the window holding a bulky bag of baked goods.
“Okay, but hurry. We don’t have much time.” I glanced up at the aircraft, which was now hovering even closer to us.
When we could read the gold print on the side of the helicopter I gave the cue and we all started in on the peaceful country song…
Just at the end of “I wanna skip and not fall”, the plane went zooming off in another direction, as if a mysterious forcefield had warded it away. Behold the Siren Power.

wahaaaa i love us! :D

AHHHHHHHHH PRIDE AND PREJUDICE WAS BERIBERIBERIBERIBERIBERI GOOD. as you can probably tell from the userpic because it tends to match whatever i am currently obsessed with. :) yesterday my mom woke me up at like seven or something to tell me it was a snowday and i was absolutely ecstatic because i still had like an hour of work on my english essay and all of my chem homework to take care of soooo i got off really lucky. then i went back to sleep (of course) but only for like an hour because then my mom was in my room again yelling at me that she couldn't find her black boots. which i had borrowed without asking to go to swim practice or thursday night. it turns out that i had left them in the locker room because my feet were soaking after practice and i really didn't want to put on socks and therefore shoes. so i ran outside barefoot to the car even though it was freezing and THOUGHT i had my mom's boots in my swimbag so they're actually still there on the bench in the lockerroom and i feel pretty stupid. :) so basically i was grounded until my mom came home from work at about five and then we made up and watched dr. phil with my dad. then the whole family went to fhop and patrick and kerry and i quoted lotr and sang like the lion from the wizard of oz... hahaha which we've been doing a lot lately but whatever. then my mom and i went to pride and prejudice (IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE MINISERIES YOU MUST. WATCH IT. even if it's like ten hours long. it's amazing.) and my dad and brother and sister went to chronicles of narnia. since our movie ended first i got to see like the last twenty minutes of narnia WHICH LOOKS INCREDIBLE TOO (haaaa bekah). so. if you need a feel-good movie then i sincerely recommend pride and prejudice because it is extremely cute.

el fin.
